Of course, employees should just follow directions because it is their job to do so, but it doesn’t always happen. It is proven that employees respond favorably to rewards. This fact can be used to save money on credit card processing fees by encouraging employee compliance. When employees follow the procedures for processing card payments, businesses can save money on processing fees and charges.
Before beginning a reward program be sure all employees are trained on proper card processing and understand the fees and charges that are incurred from not following procedures. Make sure everyone understands what they need to do to qualify for the rewards and how the information will be compiled and when. Decide how ties will be handled. Have everything in writing. Post the results each month. For those who aren’t qualifying meet with them to see if there are ways to improve their compliance.
INDIVIDUAL REWARDS
There are a number of individual rewards that can be given to employees to encourage processing compliance. There can be small rewards monthly with a larger reward at the end of the year. The end of the year reward can be a drawing or it can be for the most compliant transactions for the year.
The rewards can include the following:
• Time off (an hour or so that may or may not be combined)
• Gift card (choose gift cards that don’t have a fee)
• Lunch (delivered to work or gift card to restaurant)
• Small useful gifts
• Local attraction tickets
• Movie tickets
• Certificate of Achievement
GROUP REWARDS
The group can be rewarded by keeping chargebacks below a specific number or by number of transactions that are in compliance with card processing procedures. Each month in compliance can have a different reward. There can also be a cumulative reward. For example one month receives a specific reward and then when there are two consecutive months, the reward can larger, and it can continue for consecutive months.
• Break room activity
• Lunch
• Gift cards
• Tickets
• Office, break room, or office gift (microwave, books, etc)
• Snacks
• Deserts
• Coffee, sodas, etc.
• Raises
It would be nice if all employees appreciated the effort given for rewarding employees, but that isn’t likely to happen. Sadly there is someone who won’t appreciate it. Focus on the employees who do, and make sure you appreciate their appreciation.
If you are going to have smaller rewards, you can have everyone who qualifies be entered in a drawing for something larger and more valuable. The drawings can be done monthly or yearly. Christmas holiday parties are a great way to do yearly rewards and drawings.
